Woman power
Director Barath Neelakantan has experimented with a non-linear screenplay in the 40-minute short film, Sthreepart, expected to be released shortly. “During the early days of theatre, lead women roles were played by men, and they were referred to as ‘Sthreepart’, the likes of ‘Rajapart’ for the protagonist and ‘Kallapart’ for the antagonist. This film is titled Sthreepart, signifying that women play their part, be it good, bad or ugly,” says Barath. Sthreepart is about an eventful Valentine’s Day of a young married woman Durga (Nithya Shri). The story unfolds with an array of life-changing events, which may or may not have been influenced by the women around Durga, including some she has not met. Amidst the chaos, the film highlights women’s strikingly different takes on marriage, infidelity, trust, single status, vengeance, etc. There is a subplot in the film, involving Indraja, a successful corporate woman, played by Anupama Kumar,” says Barath, an HR professional-turned-filmmaker.
Comic act
Comedian Kishan’s latest escapade is in director Arun’s Ennodu Vilayadu , starring Bharath. “I play Kathir, an accountant in Bharath’s office. It is a kind of an annoying character, but he tolerates me because I am his confidant,” says Kishan. “Besides this, I have been confirmed to play the main comedian’s role in director Senthilselvan’s next film. Meanwhile, in director Anees’ next film after Thirumanam Enum Nikkah , I will be playing a role.”
Kollywood calling?
After his initial foray into Kollywood with films such as Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru, Anjathey and Ko , Ajmal Amir shifted base to Telugu films. “As an actor, I had to take on projects that came my way, irrespective of language. This helped further my career. Fortunately, the films I did in Telugu were well-received. Subsequently, I got a chance to act with Mohanlal in a Malayalam film, Loham , where I play the role of a Tamilian, son of a finance minister; in fact, the battle of wits is between these two characters. Now, the time is ripe to return to Kollywood and I am on the verge of signing my next Tamil film,” says Ajmal.
