The first Malaysian Indian film festival was nothing short of a success. Nearly 10 films were screened over three days, and in fact, it had an edge of competitiveness — a jury that included director Manobala, actors Charlie and Fathima Babu chose winners under various categories. Says Charlie: “It was an enjoyable experience. They are good on both the technical and the acting fronts. Some of the films were so good we had a tough time choosing the best. However, V. Nagaraj (“Uruvam”) bagged the best director award for sheer meticulousness.” While Sasidaran and Jasmine Michael were declared best actors, “Aandal” bagged the special jury award for the story. Ganesan was adjudged the best cinematographer, and Mansher Singh, the best sound designer. The awards were given away by Sarath Kumar in the presence of Malaysian Minister Datho Subramaniam.
Waiting for “3”
Though the song “Kolaveri Di” from the film has become a viral phenomenon, the team behind “3” is pretty mum about the movie itself. Directed by Aishwarya Dhanush, the film has Dhanush and Shruti Hassan playing the lead. Says Dhanush: “All I can say is we're racing against time to complete the film as early as possible. I don't want to say anything about it; I want the audience to check it out themselves.” The film's scheduled to hit the screens next month. Meanwhile, the buzz is that Dhanush and Selvaraghavan may come together for another film.
A step ahead...
Shankar's one director who's embraced latest technology for his films, and here's more news. His “Nanban” has used a technology that the smash-hit “Avatar” did — state-of-the-art ARRI film scanner used at 4K resolution. The Digital Intermediate process was done on uncompressed 4k real-time on Quantel Pablo DI system. Well, Shankar does go the extra mile for his films!
