Guru cool!

Director A.C. Mugil is proud of the technical and production aspects of his Kandein . Mugil hails from the Prabhudeva stable, and he has roped in others from the same camp for his film. Cinematographer Nirav Shah's assistant Prashant T Misale, Harris Jayaraj's assistant Vijay Ebenezar and editor Antony's assistant Antony Reuban are all part of Mugil's team. “Prabhudeva is my guru. And, in Kandein, I have utilised the talent of all the assistants from various departments,” says the director, whose film stars director-actor Bhagyaraj's son Shanthnoo and Rashmi Gautham.

Model act

The invasion of non-local heroines continues. The latest to join the bandwagon is beauty queen and model Hashika, from Bengaluru. “I am doing two Tamil films — Malar Maelnilaipalli and Kalvettu — and an untitled Telugu film. Being a classical dancer and singer, I find it easy to do the song-and-dance sequences in films. Also, thanks to modelling, I've learnt to give the right expressions and emote well before the camera.”

Friendship rules

Even after realising that his best friend is a bad man, he stands by him, as Karnan did in the ‘Mahabharatha' — this is the gist of Gowravargal , directed by Sanjayram, and starring Sathyaraj. “Sathyaraj appears in his natural look throughout the film, and he does not have any dialogues. But, his expressions and action speak volumes,” says the director. The film, set in Salem, has Yuvarani starring opposite Sathyaraj, Vignesh and Monica.

The ‘K' factor

Following Kaathavarayan , director Salangadurai is giving the finishing touches to Kaantharvan, and is getting ready to launch Kandeepan . New face Nirmal is being introduced opposite Vidisha ( Kaathavarayan ) and another new find, Riya. Why call a film Kandeepan ? Says Salangadurai: “It is the name of Arjuna's weapon. The film is inspired by the Mahabharatha , and there's a lot of maternal sentiment in the film.”
