He was one of the first directors to use Indian musical scores in his movie. India continues to fascinate Australian film director, Baz Luhrmann. On his fourth visit to the country, this time for personal reasons, Luhrmann said, “Visiting here is cathartic. Now I have to figure out how to use all I have seen and experienced.”

As an artist he believes he can exploit any medium. “I can paint or maybe tell a story or make a film. There is no end to creativity; everything is part of the process and this can help me create something in my films too.” Had he watched any Indian films? “Yes I saw ‘Lagaan’ and I think Aamir Khan is a fine actor.” Meanwhile he is looking forward to collaborating with A.R. Rahman for his next venture. “We share a great working relationship and will definitely work on a project together.”
