Arundhati, who starred in the recently-released Arthanaari , says she wanted to be an air hostess, and has even done a one-year course to that end. “But destiny had other plans for me. I was lucky to have got the role of a police officer in Arthanaari . When I decided to become an actress, I wondered how long it would take before I played a cop. I am grateful it happened so fast.”

She’s surprised though that despite playing a small role in Naaigal Jaakirathai , she got great reviews for it. “I guess the clinching factor was that I ably supported the main lead.” Arundhati is glad that she has been able to move past the failure of her first film, Veluthu Kattu made under S. A. Chandrasekhar’s banner. “The media spotted my early potential, which helped me get these films.”

But her career’s defining point, she says, is playing a sex worker in Netru Indru. “Such a character is a great challenge. I’m thankful to director Padmamagan for helping me ace it.” Arundhati now has two films on hand in Tamil, and another in Kannada. “I’m also looking forward to my Telugu debut with Intlo Deyyam Nakenti Bhayam .”
