It has been a satisfying year for Puducherry-based theatre group, Indianostrum, the brainchild of Koumarane Valavane. Kunti Karna , the group’s longest running production, was staged at the 8th Theatre Olympics.

Their play, Karuppu , was invited to perform at Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards 2018, where they bagged the award for best choreography and best costume design. Karuppu was also performed at The Hindu Theatre Festival earlier this year.

Swan Song , a performance based on the Therukoothu style, and performed by Therukoothu artist Purasai Kannappa Sambandan, premièred this July at the Avignon Off Festival in France.

Indianostrum’s latest production, Chandala, Impure , which was commissioned by Les Francophonies en Limosin, had its international première at Festival des Franchophonies en Limosin in September and the production premièred in India at the Rangasankara Theatre Fest, Bangalore, recently.

The members of Indianostrum are now back in Puducherry after months of intensive touring, and are getting ready to perform for home audiences. (See box for schedule.) Catch any — or all — of their plays over the next three months in Pondicherry.

Donor passes are available at the Indianostrum Theatre, 7, Romain Rolland Street, Puducherry. To pre-book your seats, write an email to indianostrum.theatre@gmail.com or call 9087088826
