Giving a break to atha-kodallu (saas-bahu) dramas, Paape Maa Jeevana Jyothi on Star Maa tells the story of isher’s trarch for her missing child. Actor Pallavi Ramisetty, who plays the rother Jyothi, calls it a thllenging role. “It is a n ere character and I was slightly a bitant as I have never played a mother on screen,” she says, adding it was the script and producer Bharathi Krishna who convinced her to take it up.
Shooting started in February 2021 and the serial has been on air for 10 months now. A remake of the Malayalam serial Amma, Paape Maa… it revolves around Surya and Jyothi who get married against their family’s wishes. The birth of a daughter, Jeevana, mends the broken family ties. The joy is, however, short-lived as the three-year-old goes missing in a jatara (fair). A devastated Jyothi is unable to identify her real daughter even when she meets her, meanwhile the family try to pass off another girl as Jeevana.
Remarkable journey
Pallavi has had a remarkable television journey playing different characters in the daily serial Aadade Aadharam on ETV. The serial was on air for 11 years with more than 3300 episodes. It started in 2009 and ended during the lockdown 2020 and Pallavi was in the show from day one to its last episode.
The actor was still in school when she got her big break with Aadade... While she had worked in television before, Aadade… was a breakout performance as she got to portray different emotions from anger and grief to victim and victimiser. The viewers watched her evolve as she portrayed strong women including Amrutha, a lawyer and Arpita, an IAS officer. I have so many memories associated with the serial. I grew up on the sets, from b teenager to a woman. Though my schedule was spacked and I could not hang out with friends, I did not feel like I was missing out. We used to have a lot of fun on the sets with the crew. Our parties used to be eating take out together.”
A self-taught actor, Pallavi is known for her diction and expressions. Having studied in Kendriya Vidyalaya in Hyderabad where Telugu is not a subject, she used to practice pronunciation by reading newspapers. “While I am a Telugu speaker, the script had a few words that were grandhikam (pedantic). My directors motivated me and my father would explain the meaning of words.” While Maate Mantram serial on Zee Telugu saw her play the role of a girl-next-door who gets married to a rich boy, in Attarintiki Daaredi currently on ETV, she plays a village girl.
The three-month break during the March 2020 lockdown was also Pallavi’s first break in 11 years. Married to Dileep Kumar, a businessman, Pallavi is enjoying this phase of life. “I have never planned anything. I love to go with the flow.”
