Not everyone who turns 21 wins a national-level reality show and saunter off towards becoming an international celebrity.
Sharvi Yadav did just that. She is the 2016 winner of reality TV show The Stage 2 .
Sharvi was in Bengaluru recently to perform at Phoenix Marketcity. “I love Bangalore,” she exclaims. It is a humble and welcoming city. It gives off peaceful and calm vibes. Well, there is mad traffic,” she laughs and quickly adds: “But that is there everywhere. I love performing in Bangalore. One thing I cherish about the city is that the people listen and appreciate good music.”
Sharvi believes in expressing emotions when she sings. She hopes the audience connect on an emotional level when they listen to her. “Every song has a story. Each of these stories means different things to different people. I want people to feel the music and interpret it in their own ways. In short, I want the song to hit them.”
After winning an English language national singing reality show, Sharvi has been performing all across the country.
When asked about her celebrity life, “I make sure it doesn’t affect me much. One of the few perks is that it is motivating. When you’re a celebrity, people make an effort to listen to you and appreciate your music. That keeps me going.”
Throughout her journey, Sharvi has sensed her audience’s partiality for Bollywood music. Hoping to change that, she says, “A lot of people don’t know that I sing Bollywood songs as well. Most of the time there is a barrier between Bollywood and English listeners. I want to make music that breaks such barriers and make people welcome both English and Bollywood songs.”
As a catalyst to that objective, she is now working on her new project Sharvi Yadav Live singing both English and Hindi songs.
However, she sticks to her signature jazz and rock-oriented style she fondly calls ‘Sharvi vibes’.
Her advice to aspiring singers is, “I lost my voice for a year and I couldn’t sing before the show. It is a singer’s nightmare. So, my request is that singers take care of their voices.
Apart from that, be inspired; be smart about it because music has the power to change the world. Follow your passion and most importantly, follow a path.”
