Kajal Aggarwal lights up quickly on screen. But off-screen, one has to patiently listen as she speaks in a breakneck speed. “I talk quite fast,” says Kajal Aggarwal, who was at Express Avenue for the launch of 7UP Ponneram. Currently busy juggling between Telugu and Tamil cinema, how does Kajal maintain a balance between the two industries? “I’m used to shuttling between different geographical zones. But honestly, it’s more about the mindset than the distance,” she says.
Kajal was last seen in Tamil in Mersal, after which, she got busy with a couple of Telugu projects. Professionally, 2018 has been an amazing year for Kajal, who started with Awe and went on to act in MLA and Kavacham , and she will be next seen in Paris Paris in 2019. “Shooting with Ramesh Aravind was a treat,” she says, “He is super-focussed and brings in the right sensibilities for this film.” Given the fact that Paris Paris is a remake of the Hindi blockbuster Queen, how did Kajal manage to get into the skin of the character? “Kangana was brilliant in the film,” she gushes, “And she won the National Award. The character was so registered in my mind that once I signed up for Paris Paris , I decided not to watch the original.”
Queen released in 2014. However, she didn’t catch the flick as talks about the remake were initiated. Eventually, Kajal’s name was zeroed in on for the Tamil version. “If you want to see how I bring in a unique flavour, go watch the movie,” she laughs, adding, “Of course, even I want to watch it since I have tried to keep Tamil culture intact and ensure that Parameshwari is as relatable as any girl from a small town.”
Kajal Aggarwal has already started prepping for Indian 2 , in which she will star opposite Kamal Haasan. Except for saying that the character “really excited” her, Kajal is extremely careful of divulging details about the film. 2019 will also see her pairing up with Jayam Ravi for an upcoming comedy film. Comedy being her favourite genre, the actress says she loves working with a new team.
Kajal has also been keen on expanding her horizons beyond the film industry. Ever since her early days in films, she has been passionate about MBA. Given her busy shooting schedules, she now has plans to push it for another year, “ Or I might just do an executive-MBA,” she retorts.
