There are burning issues in Karnataka that do not always make it to mainstream media. There aren’t enough platforms or engaging storytelling that inspire audiences either.

It is to address such lacunae that Good Pitch Local Karnataka has created a unique opportunity for film makers to connect with individuals and organisations, engaged with social issues, to focus on social causes in local communities.

Short-term projects in the form of a documentary, podcast, photo essay, comic strip or any non fiction media can be submitted to Good Pitch Local Karnataka.

Good Pitch Local Karnataka is an extension of Good Pitch India, which is the outcome of Good Pitch global program initiated by Doc Society (UK) and Sundance Documentary Film Institute with the support of Ford Foundation.

Indian Documentary Foundation has hosted two editions of Good Pitch in Mumbai.

Good Pitch Karnataka is hosted by Our Ground Works in partnership with Indian Documentary Foundation.

“The selected project teams will be invited to attend two workshops, in October and in March. The first workshop will be a closed door one where we will mentor the participants. In March 2019, we will invite a community of media makers, lawyers, funders, educators, policy makers, innovators and journalists,” says Sophy V Sivaraman, the founding CEO of Indian Documentary Foundation.

She adds, “Our Ground Works, founded by Tara Rao, will be supporting us as knowledge partners.”

Tara says partnering with Good Pitch Local is in line with the aim of Our Ground Works.

“We are focussed on collective rather than individual empowerment. Good Pitch Local Karnataka goes beyond documentary film making. We want to forge a collaboration between documentary film makers and NGOs, campaigners, activists and many more, so that together they can create a greater impact,” says Tara, who is a campaigner, and has worked in the arena of environment and human rights.
