The Congress on Tuesday released an Aarop Patra , or chargesheet, against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government for failing to deliver on the promises made to the people.
At a press conference here, Congress communication chief Randeep Singh Surjewala said Madhya Pradesh was the only State where farmers in 24 villages from the Chief Minister’s home district had written to the President asking for permission to end their lives and four farmers took their lives every day.
The Congress said there had been 1,500 farmers’ agitations in the past 15 years of BJP rule.
The Vyapam scam, the firing on farmers at Mandsaur and alleged cases of corruption against Mr. Chouhan’s kin also figured in the list of allegations by the Congress.
“They have played with people’s faith and didn’t even spare the pious Mahakaleshwar temple of Lord Siva... I have only given a sample of the sea of corruption that the State of Madhya Pradesh is witnessing,” Mr. Surjewala said.
The Congress has pulled out all the stops to win Madhya Pradesh that has seen 15 years of uninterrupted BJP rule.
On Monday, while addressing a rally at the Chief Minister’s constituency, Budhni, State Congress chief Kamal Nath sounded a warning to government employees who took sides and supported the BJP.
“ Kamal Nath ki chakki der se chalti lekin bahut barik peesti hain [Kamal Nath’s grinding stone moves slowly but it grinds very fine],” Mr. Nath said.
