Cases have been booked against three Congressmen, including Congress Leader in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge, for allegedly violating voting regulations.

A case was booked on Tuesday against Mr. Kharge after photographs of him casting vote together with his wife Radha Bai in the voting compartment at Kalaburagi went viral. Soon, the State unit of BJP filed a complaint with the Chief Election Officer of Karnataka alleging violation of model code of conduct. The presence of over 20 television cameramen inside the booth as Mr. Kharge walked in to vote also led to chaos.

Second case

In Hubballi, two Congressmen Rajat Ullagaddimath and Rajni Bijawad got into trouble for posting on social media images and video of them casting votes. Hubballi tahsildar Shashidhar Madhyal filed a complaint under section 128 of the Representation of the People Act for failing to maintain secrecy of their voting.

In Vijayapura

In a similar incident in Vijayapura, Parasu Bhosle, a BJP supporter, uploaded on social media a video of him casting his vote and getting confirmation from the VVPAT. Election officials have said that they would take suitable action after getting confirmation from which booth the voter had cast his vote.

In Lingsagur town, the election official at booth number 17 lodged a complaint against a voter for filming the voting process. According to the complaint, Amaresh Parvathayya took a video while voting and circulated it on social media.
