Bicycle riding and padayatra holding aloft a LPG cylinder to protest against the fuel and domestic gas prices marked the road show of AICC president Rahul Gandhi at Malur in Kolar district on Monday.
Mr. Gandhi, who arrived in Malur from New Delhi, began his roadshow on a bus accompanied by Karnatak inc-charge K.C. Venugopal and senior leader Ashok Gehlot.
Thousands of party functionaries and general public thronged the town and gathered on both sides of the road to see the Congress leader.
Mr. Gandhi suddenly decided to ride on a bicycle to register protest against the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel. The security personnel had a tough time controlling the crowd. As the AICC leader rode the bicycle, other Congress leaders had to sweat as they had to run behind him. Mr. Gandhi waved to the enthusiastic crowd even when he was riding the bicycle.
Mr. Gandhi also sprang a surprise by resorting to a padayatra, holding aloft a model of a LPG cylinder to protest against the LPG price hike.
Later, Mr. Gandhi addressed a huge gathering at Balaji Circle in the town, standing on a bullock cart. He lashed out at the Narendra Modi government at the Centre saying it had done nothing to the uplift of the poor of the country.
“Mr. Modi is talking against corruption. However BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa went to jail on corruption charges while he was Chief Minister. Mr. Modi should understand this”, he said.
