11:43

Comment From Rajat Singh

What is the minimum number of seats that BJP needs to win in order to sit in the opposition?

11:43

Varghese K George: Kejriwal to address crowd at AAP office

11:43

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Rajat: even with one seat you can sit in the opposition.

Comment From Jassi

But by the same logic they didn't allow the INC to nominate someone as opposition party leader in the parliament. Is it different for state election, like in Delhi?

11:45

Varghese K George: if we become arrogant, people will throw us out, he tells AAP cadre..

11:46

Comment From Sheik

If AAP fullfills their election promises then definetly there will be a huge impact across the nation. AAP leaders must ensure this by delivering.

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Indeed Sheik, the politics of hope is all about delivery.

11:46

Comment From Guest

George, do you think it is a indication of the mood of the whole nation?

11:46

Comment From Naresh Samala

With is majority in Delhi Does AAP is questionable for any rules or laws it makes in Delhi Assembly??

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: A majority is 36. AAP has much, much more.

Varghese K George: 'Paanch sail kejriwal' became the equivalent of 'Abki baar Modi sarkaar,' in May 2014

11:47

Comment From Roag

One thing is sure, days of traditional (age old) politics which was bent towards patronizing bureaucracy, i.e. if it tilted the political establishment's way, are over. Days of quick justice and tangible results have come.

11:47

Comment From Abhishek

Expected AAP to win but not by this margin. Modi -PM, Kejri-CM. Dream come true.

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: No one expected this margin. Even Today's Chanakya exit polls has been surpassed by 10 seats.

11:47

Comment From Sibi

The perception that people voted for BJP in the recent elections for deliverance on various fronts. Why has the people of Delhi alone thought differently

11:48

Comment From Raj

This show that people want to participate in development and not accept a model of development thrust on them from above.

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Yes, Raj, People want to have their say. Let's hope that the gap between promise and delivery is narrow!

11:48

Comment From Suhasini

A victorious trajectory of 9 long months is slightly but strongly shaken. What a fantastic comeback, Mr.Kejriwal regardless of the 49 days stint, lack of governance, anarchism and so on as proclaimed by the media and of course those were matter of facts . Despite, the poll results apparently marks a clear win for democracy. And now Sir, the capital just looks up to you a 5 YEAR administration and am sure, it’s gonna keep you up all night. You and the AAP volunteers truly deserve an appreciation for such a huge political changeover. It’s time and now perhaps, the last prospect for you and your party to take onus to prove and live up to people’s dogmas in the capital. Waiting for a corrupt and rape-free Delhi! Congratulations and All the best, Mr. Common Man!

11:48

Comment From Nirmal

Why is it that , last year with the same vote share BJP had around 25 seats , and now it has only 5 seats ?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Because Nirmal, the vote has shifted dramatically and in a first past the post system like ours, the numbers can swing wildly to one side.

11:48

Comment From Jassi

But by the same logic they didn't allow the INC to nominate someone as opposition party leader in the parliament. Is it different for state election, like in Delhi? That is with less that 10 seats can BJP function as an effective opposition?

11:49

Comment From Puneeth Kumar

Surprized to see AAP beating even the Exit pools. Time for BJP to introspect before it braces for Bihar.

Varghese K George: BJP's Bihar plans now goes for a six; Nitish gets a boost

11:50

Comment From Honey

Delhi is now expecting change.. All the best AAP

11:50

Comment From Guest

the focus of AAP manifesto has shifted from anti corruption and lokpal bill to women safety and other issues.. now that they have a clear majority, would they take up this issue, because if i remember correctly, that's why they quit in the first place. can some1 answer this?

Varghese K George: Modi had asked Delhi to elect a CM who fears Modi; Delhi elected a CM who dares Modi..

11:50

Comment From vinod

Dear Amit, What is your assement, the effect of AAP way of political change in Delhi to the Indian State politics in the future ?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Mr. Kejriwal will have to deliver and play his cards carefully is he is to have a national role. There is clearly a gaping vacuum in Indian politics and AAP can fill that role beyond Delhi. But they should play it cool -- one step at a time.

11:50

Comment From Anshuman Mehta

Very surprised on the pulse of Delhi giving AAP a second chance. Not sure what AAP did in their 49 days but congratulations to them. Hope that instead of protesting and rhetoric they administer and delivery. This is a win for democracy which has played out an interesting hand.

Comment From rahul

Delhi has always called "mini India"....for its diversity..ppl of Delhi understand the need for a clean government..so it;s upto kejriwal know to deliver...if he does....no one can stop him...if he doesn't....we all know that delhi's ppl dont't forget easily...

Varghese K George: yes, and what has happened in Delhi will have a national impact certainly..

11:51

Comment From RS

What are the chances that AAP can be a credible alternative in other, bigger states?

11:51

Comment From Jitesh

Votes are being counted as they came. So if AAP supporters voted earlier in the morning, the graph will show a AAP lead. But if BJP supporters voted after 12noon, the verdict will start swinging in BJPs favour later on in the day

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Jitesh: these trends and leads are not likely to change.

Varghese K George: Yeas, Modi's invincibility has been challenged and the hope of a new politics is visible. Kejriwal has a huge burden to carry now..

11:52

Comment From pramod

It would be interesting to see how AAP is going to formulate its policies. Last time anarchic policies were visible. Will AAP again fight for Delhi's statehood?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Delhiwallahs and others should carefully read AAP's manifesto now!!

11:52

Varghese K George: Rahul Gandhi congratulates Kejriwal

11:53

Comment From sonia

People projecting this as Modi's loss, however i believe Delhiites have voted for Kejriwal to make sure theres super healthy competition between state and centre. Dear Media, pls get over the fight if its Modi's loss.. im happy its kejriwals win cause now they will both try and work harder to prove each other more smart and good. Your comments pls

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Yes, Sonia. Many people I spoke to want Modi at the Centre and Kejriwal in Delhi as CM. But they, clearly, made their choice.

11:54

Comment From Richa

Krupa: carefully introspected and visionary approach might help him and his party.

11:54

Comment From Ankita

Glad that there are people who can withstand the Modi wave.

Varghese K George: Yes, many many people who i met over the last few days wanted this message conveyed. And they are not Muslims or Sickularists, but normal neighborhood Hindus who had grown sick of arrogance...

11:54

Comment From Raja

What will be first action by kejriwal?

11:54

Comment From Samad

what do we mean when we say "no opposition". Is there a minimum number of seats required to sit as an opposition party or is this just a poking statement?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: You need one seat to sit in Opposition, Samad.

Comment From Mohit

Question of the hour is, could there be a different outcome if Mr. Harshvardhan was chosen as CM candidate?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Mohit: these ifs and buts will be discussed. But the reality now is all too evident!

11:55

Comment From Rituraj

i request congress to make rahul gandhi president of INC so as to repeat same performance in future state assembly election

Varghese K George: Poor Rahul Gandhi, why poke him? Anyway he had declared that power is poison etc etc...people have granted him his wishes..

11:56

Comment From TJ

they have absolute majority; they can amend/make any law without any support from any other party

11:56

Comment From Raj

AAP now needs to carry its pre-election hard work into actually delivery, without relaxing. They need to focus on transforming Delhi. Only then should they move to other areas. Of course, this win will inspire a lot of new support and leadership to arise all over the country.

11:56

Comment From PRANJAL

its not on my screen , anyways thanks mr. Amit Baruah...........can u pizz tell me what do u feel about prospect of AAP now in other states after delhi election...can it perform better in other states too?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: I think a lot will depend on how they conduct themselves in Delhi. They have more than a majority to put it mildly. So they have no excuses when it comes to governance. Their relationship with the Centre will be interesting to watch.

11:56

Comment From Vikash

lokpal Bill should be the answer for the faith of the people on AAP

11:56

Comment From nagarathnam

what kind of effect this result will have on national political stage?

11:57

Comment From Guest

What can be the main reason behind people again voted for AAP

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: They believe AAP is different from other parties, possibly.

11:57

Comment From praveen Kumar

Is AAP's win really a Modi defeat?? If so what BJP should learn from it?

11:57

11:57

Comment From Madhu.S

11:59

Comment From R Rathore

The verdict is people's response to arrogance and negativeity of BJP. Hope AAP takes different road to rod arrogance, corruption and timidity or you will assigned to bin as others before you.

Varghese K George, Political Editor, The HIindu: Kejriwal made the same point addressing the AAP cadre now..

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Latest Leads: AAP 65, BJP 4, INLD 1

12:01

Comment From Sibi

This seems to be a verdict cutting across the usual fault lines like cast, class, religion etc.. Is this here to stay or is only a temporary blip?

12:01

Comment From Jabir Abdulla

Is there any balance for opposition?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: That's a good question Jabir. One could have hoped for a stronger Opposition in the Assembly! But the BJP has not been able to get more than a handful of seats.

12:02

Comment From Guest

Its heartening to see the Mandate giving a strong government, fractured mandate has hurt the country for quite long.

12:02

Comment From M Sudhakar

Do you think that Mr.Kejri will get right support from Center.?

Varghese K George, Political Editor, The HIindu: we can only hope. the BJP had said for development to take place etc, the party must be in power at both the centre and the state. Modi calling him is a good sign, however.

12:02

Comment From Ankita

I have a question. At present the Delhi police and other departments are under the control of central government. If AAP decides to go for it being autonomous i.e under Delhi's control what would be the procedure for that?

12:02

Comment From Mithun

Can the center have a say in decision making in Delhi? I mean what if AAP wants to give Delhi a statehood now, can the center deny it?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Mithun: The Centre will have to agree. Mr. Modi has a huge majority in the Lok Sabha if any changes have to be brought about.

12:02

Comment From Guest

Everyone deserved second chance and so Kejriwal.People of Delhi reiterated their faith in him.

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Yes, Kejriwal has been given a resounding second chance!!

12:04

Comment From Dipen

Why should any good commitment from a political party be termed as 'populist'?

Rukmini: I agree that it's a misused term. Populist measures framed in other ways are welcomed by the same people! Promises without following through - that you could call cheap populism.

Comment From A terrible blow for the BJP , probably due to the arrogance of its Central leaders and Narendra Modis silence on burning issues being faced by the minorities, especiallly Catholic Christians in Delhi and Christians in general in the country.

Is this the death knell for the once mighty Congress, which will be the happiest party to see the poor plight of its rival, the BJP? The people have taught a good lesson to the proud ruling party at the Centre.

12:04

Comment From Bhaskar

Congratulations to AAP and Mr. Kejriwal. Not to get into the whole 100 rupee muffler versus 10 lakh suit. This proves that the issues that are relevant in Delhi were properly understood by AAP and promises made. Hope they deliver. BJP and Particularly Mr. Modi should stop the silence on the extremism that is afflicting our country right now and focus on an inclusive development. Enough of the words Mr. Modi,..not stand and deliver. Same thing applies to AAP here. Congress is relegated to the dust bin of Indian politics.

Varghese K George, Political Editor, The HIindu: Yes, that is the message to Modi. Silence in the face of bigotry is not an option...

12:05

Comment From indian engineer

is it not good that there will be no monopoly in the country with AAP giving a clean sweep in Delhi

Varghese K George, Political Editor, The HIindu: yes, absolutely. People are looking for options and Kejriwal proves the point

12:06

Comment From Aatman

Rukmini: Kiran Bedi leads by 2k votes. Counting in progress

12:06

Comment From Subramani

Stunning victoryto AAP & Congrats. Now they must mix reason with realistic and show a mature attitude to governance. BJP so far has been graceful in defeat with Modi quick to offer support to Delhi. Now the ball is in AAP's court on how they use this mandate. Hoever early to say Modi is out, what works in Delhi won't work elsewhere

12:06

Comment From TJ

Mercifully Congress is down and out, let us see what chinta shivir do Sonia nad Rahul indulge in now

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Yes, TJ. It should be chinta, not chintan shivir for the Congress!!

12:08

Comment From Pranay

This is a phenomenal victory for AAP, and an even bigger victory for democracy. Now they need to stay true to their word and lead by example, by inclusivity, by innovation and by morality.

12:08

Comment From Anand

Do you agree, the easy part is done with for AAP, now comes the real test of proving itself and delivering on their promises, bringing in governance.

12:08

Comment From Hashir

I think Mr. Harsha Wardan may perform better than Bedi.

12:08

Comment From Pradeepkumar

Yeah in Tamilnadu there is a political vacuum, what will be their role in Tamilnadu?

12:08

Comment From Madhavan

Running away was the worst thing Arvind could do. Coming back was the best thing he ever did. Now that people have entrusted their faith in him, he better deliver. We need a change in the way politics is managed in India

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Let's hope that hopes are not unrealised!!

12:09

Comment From hussain

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Kejriwal leads by nearly 25,000 votes in New Delhi

12:09

Comment From Sharanu

is really Going as per survey?

Rukmini: The results so far are better for the AAP than the exit polls suggested, far better than the pre-poll surveys projected

12:10

Comment From Neil

will AAP join the badal to compete for centre in the future?

12:10

Comment From Guest

whats the vote share for each party?

Rukmini: 50 for AAP, 33 for the BJP and under 10% for INC at the moment

The Hindu: AAP won in four constituencies; BJP - leading in 4; INLD - leading in one constituency.

12:10

Jatin Gandhi: No Neil. Punjab is the next big destination for AAP.

12:10

Jatin Gandhi: They won all 4 Lok Sabha seats from Punjab

12:10

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Vote Share as of Now, as per Election Commission.

Rukmini: It's been swinging back and forth but she leads at the moment

12:12

Comment From Kesavan K

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Next couple of days one would imagine!!

12:12

Comment From RS

Can BJP get LoP status even if they win lesser than 7 seats?

12:13

Jatin Gandhi: The anti-BJP vote has consolidated with AAP

12:13

Comment From RAj

Does Vote Share tell any story? Was there any negative vote share for BJP? Did minority vote shift to AAP from Congress changed the equation?

Rukmini: Voteshare trends indicate that the INC lost a lot of its base to the AAP. The BJP's voteshare has dipped as compared to LS 2014, but stayed the same as AS 2013.

12:13

Jatin Gandhi: No they can't, RS

12:13

Comment From Gaurav

what happens if a party wins all the seats in state assembly? is there anything mentioned in the constitution about it, just curious because of the landslide victory of AAP

12:14

Jatin Gandhi: Voters considered Congress a non player and a large part of its vote share moved to AAP

12:14

Comment From Pradeepkumar

Was the religious issues in news had an impact in this Election?

12:14

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Mehrauli: AAP leading 16,912 votes.

12:14

Comment From Subramani

Do you think BJP really didn't have a real strategy they were sure would work

Varghese K George, Political Editor, The HIindu: BJP fails to get Delhi correct, repeatedly.

12:15

Comment From Archit

On another note, AAP has always requested people to not vote for candidates with criminal cases against them. The latest report by The Hindu says that 33% AAP candidates have serious criminal cases against them. What exactly is this?

Rukmini: I think the AAP has learnt that a blanket condemnation of people with criminal cases is problematic, becase it is easy to have cases slapped against you while protesting etc. Kejriwal has several too. We need to make a qualitative distinction in types of cases, I think.

12:15

Comment From Kumar

BJP vote percent is intact and it seems a tactical understanding of all of BJP's opponents to defeat BJP

Varghese K George, Political Editor, The HIindu: We thought it was the BJP that wanted to liquidate the Congress...

12:16

Comment From Guest

Dear editor what are the factors behind this anti incumbency ?

Rukmini: This seems like less of an anti-incumbency issue (given that they only ruled for 49 days), and more of a positive vote for a party that has clearly captured people's imaginations

12:16

Jatin Gandhi: Remember there is no major drop in the BJP's vote share.

12:16

Comment From Nagalakshmi

What are the three major lessons which all Polital Parties should learn from 2015 Delhi elections Sir ?

12:16

Comment From pramod

Absolute power corrupts!! Lets see how well AAP understands it

Varghese K George, Political Editor, The HIindu: this time, AAP has enough numbers that it can throw out more rotten apples in the coming days.

Comment From hussain

what about the Left parties? i read that they have contested from some 15 seats. what is the role of left in indian politics?

Rukmini: The Left is near-irrelevant in Delhi. No seats and barely any votes.

12:17

Comment From TJ

what is the future of INC at national level now?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: TJ: Congress appears to be down in the dumps.

12:18

Comment From Subramani

Looking at the massive turnout and the mandate for AAP and the BJP in LS; do you think we become frenzied when we vote?

12:18

Comment From Priyanshu

AAP fought 2013 elections with Lokpal bill as the main weapon / agenda. However, in this election, I dont see Lokpal bill mentioned anywhere. Any updates on what is the latest situation wrt Lokpal Bill?

12:19

Jatin Gandhi: TJ, Congress will have to come out of the shadow of the dynasty and deliver the post-dynasty phase that, ironically, Rahul Gandhi has been talking of for a decade.

12:20

Comment From Subramani

What should AAP do to ensure to deliver what they promised. What do you think may happen in case they do a U-Turn on some issues?

12:23

Comment From avinash

Ofcourse, they might take u-turn, as poll promises are very much idealistic, so to be practical some of them might not even touched. but lately AAP ministers should start following some of their best economists to lead the future course.

12:23

Comment From Yuvaraj

Will have to wait and see if AK will resort back to dharnas and protests against the central govt. like he did last time

12:24

Comment From Guna

What about the updated Dehli poll results at 12:25 pm?

Rukmini: 65 to the AAP and 4 to BJP

12:24

Comment From Ranjan, Oslo

From the massive turnout and the margin of AAP, it is evident, that Indian people have been starving for honest, humble and accountable politicians who behave properly as servents of the people. After many decades we see such a party in AAP.

12:24

Comment From kiran jose

The AAP victory shows that India needs a pro-poor governmnet,it's a victory for the socialist secular ideologies

12:24

Comment From Abhishek

AAP has kept many issue in its manifesto, is it possible to fulfill all of them without any hurdle? as we are seeing there will be no role of opposition if session would happen.and if there is some wrong policy then who will check them?

Rukmini: The voteshare numbers are interesting. 33% for the BJP would make you think that the margins are slim, but they are not - 54% for the AAP after all. It's rare to not only win just 4 seats with 33% of the vote, but also to lose them quite comprehensively.

Does Congress' performance in this election mean the end is near for the party? I certainly think so.

Rukmini: It's not looking good - it's certainly the lowest ebb for the party.

Comment From Ajith CE

Interesting to hear that Kiran takes the responsibility of the defeat. Is she serious? Is there such a practice of taking responsibility in party electioneering? I think she is hurriedly exonerating Mr Modi.In fact, Delhi was under Central rule for so many months now, and people smelt something of a governance-failure there.

Comment From Raj

Will AAP be the new Congress Party, in the sense of being the rallying point of all diverse communities on a national level?

Rukmini: That's an interesting way to put it. The AAP's popularity south of the Vindhyas, so to speak, is still unclear, though.

A new type of politics, corruption-free politics which they are promising to carry forward; How far this victory will contribute towards this goal?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: That's a good question. AAP questioned the Congress (and now BJP) model of governance. There emphasis is on an alternative politics, which will be on test. Anti-corruption is pretty much at the core of this agenda given that this affects all of us citizens.

Comment From Shivam

Can common man expect a result-oriented governance from the party or we will have to face the same sensationalizing tactics they practiced earlier?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Let's hold our horses, Shivam....give them a few months at least...but Kejriwal has shown he's a serious politician.

How has the Delhi's demographic groups voted?

Rukmini: This is a question best answered by post-poll surveys, which should be out in a day or two. Anecdotally, it seems like dalits, Muslims and the youth, as well as the working class, have strongly supported AAP.

How good is the one sided win for Democracy?

Amit Baruah, Resident Editor (Delhi):: Always good to have a vocal opposition -- in panchayats and everywhere else

What are AAP's chances of ecxpanding into other states?

Rukmini: They stand a chance in Punjab. Haryana they inexplicably sat out. In the rest of the country, metros and Tier II cities are what they are aiming for, but the LS results show they shouldn't be over-ambitious.

Has Ajay Maken won from his constituency?

Rukmini: No, he is trailing far behind and will lose.

Did the congress transfer votes intentionally to propel AAP win?

12:31

Jatin Gandhi: Arshad, if the win is one-sided one can only hope the winner is democratic in its conduct. A strong opposition is essential for robust democracy.

12:32

Rukmini: We've had a number of questions on the AAP's chances in other states. I think they have a good chance in Punjab, after having decided to sit out Haryana. In the rest of the country, big cities - maybe even some municipal corporation elections - is what they seem to be aiming for.

The Call for Priyanka will not help Congress. They need to rebuild the party from grass root level, isn't it?

Rukmini: It does seem like clutching at straws. The party's base is in disarray and as you say, it needs a major overhaul.

Rukmini: Kiran Bedi leads by 1500 votes, for everyone asking.

I was wondering if BJP got 35% plus vote share and almost none of it getting converted into win?

Rukmini: Yes, but this 33% is in the context of an election in which the AAP has nearly 55% of the vote. That makes it an extremely unusual election, one in which 33% vote cannot match a huge wave.
