Voting for Delhi Assembly elections began at brisk pace on Saturday as several enthusiastic voters, including high profile Delhi citizens, lined up at polling booths to exercise their franchise soon after polling began at 8 a.m.

According to election officials, Delhi recorded 5.64 % polling in the first hour of polling till 9 a.m.

Several high profile voters including Vice President Hamid Ansari, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, besides the chief ministerial faces of AAP and BJP, Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal were one among the first to vote at different polling centres.

The high voltage drama that was witnessed during the election campaign continued even on the polling day.

While Mr. Kejriwal alleged that he has information of opposition parties distributing liquor across the city last night, Ms. Bedi stood in support of voters in one of the slums in her constituency who alleged “that the AAP workers have been intimidating the voters in their area since last night and offered Rs. 300 each for their votes”.
