While the faces representing the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party decided to make the most of every minute of the last few hours on the last day of campaigning here, the Congress’s campaign in-charge, Ajay Maken, chose to do the opposite.
As Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal triggered much fanfare across the Capital, the former Union Minister decided not to visit his own constituency of Sadar Bazar in North Delhi, and gave vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s road show at Sultanpur Majra a miss.
Incidentally, the Congress and Mr. Maken even hit the air waves late with the party’s jingles and a promotional message in the latter’s voice airing on radio channels only on Wednesday evening.
Insiders attributed the AICC general secretary’s inactivity during the day to a late-night brainstorming session on “an expose” on the AAP’s alleged offer of requesting the Congress’ support in the run-up to the elections in addition to Mr. Gandhi’s speech at two separate road shows which had initially been planned for him.
The last among these had been planned at South Delhi’s Okhla, but later got cancelled due to the latter’s “inability to attend it”. Meanwhile, Mr. Maken zipped to an English news channel’s office for an interview during which the said “dramatic” expose was affected, but failed to create any waves.
