The Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Maulana Syed Ahmed Bukhari has urged the Samajwadi Party to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections as part of the ‘Grand Alliance’ and ensure larger representation to Muslim candidates.

In a statement Mr. Bukahri said that the secular and democratic people were feeling “extreme unease” over the SP’s decision to contest the Bihar polls by dissociating itself from the ‘Mahagathbandhan’.

He claimed that today communal forces had “come out into the open”, which had led to secular citizens, particularly Muslims, feeling insecure.

In a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Mr. Bukhari alleged that exploiting the Muslims, all political parties had always deprived them of justice.

In Bihar’s current political perspective, he made an appeal to the SP to review its decision. - PTI
