Collection: 6 Dots

AIFW was a “once in a lifetime moment” for me, when my collection was on the ramp.

The concept behind my collection was to empower the visually-challenged population of our country; to give them the independence to lead a life free of judgments. I wanted to provide them with high-quality, user-friendly, and affordable clothing, and make them confident. The show demanded nothing but the best finishing and precise detailing. It was quite challenging at times.

Collection: Raunaq

To be able to showcase my work at AIFW has been a feather in my cap. My idea was to use waste fabric ( katran ) collected from various tailors in my neighbourhood and develop them into interesting surfaces. My collection celebrates bright colours in the union of two souls. As wedding dresses these days are exorbitantly priced, I chose katran to make my garment look unique. The biggest challenge was to convert my thought process to reality; most of my garments were done by hand. I even made matching accessories.

Collection: Dear Diary

AIFW has given credibility to my work. This collection unfolds the pages of the diary I had when I was 12 years old. It had a major impact on my life. So that I could relate the concept with a trend; the prints and some silhouettes were derived from decaying flowers. I was filled with joy when I first heard that our graduation collections would be showcased at AIFW. Time was the main constraint for putting together this collection. Plus, the finishing and quality of the garment had to be on par with the quality of AIFW. It was all so new and amazing. But the best part was walking on the stage and receiving appreciation from everyone.

Collection: SELFIE

The appeal of selfies comes from how easy they are to create, share and the control they give the self-photographers over how they present themselves. My design evokes the mood and emotions that we feel when we are taking selfies. My biggest win was when I saw my collection on the ramp. At AIFW, I was living my dream. It boosted my confidence as a fashion designer, that I could present my graduation collection at AIFW 2017. It has opened many doors in the fashion industry.

Avneet Bansal, final-year, UG Fashion Design

Collection: Infusion

Displaying your collection at a huge fashion event like AIWF gives you a taste of being a professional designer. My collection draws inspiration from the growing influence of technology in our lives. My garments are lined with smart memory fibres and memory alloys which are temperature-responsive and remember different shapes at different temperatures. They are apt for people who travel extensively and want to travel light. These garments stay deflated when at a hot place and inflate lightly in cold temperatures. Working with all the professionals to put the show together was quite a learning experience.
