Rose hits last-second winner for Timberwolves

With less than a second left on the clock, Derrick Rose beat the buzzer with a superb 3-pointer to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 116-114 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night. Rose and Karl-Anthony Towns shouldered the scoring burden for the Timberwolves, combining for 61 points between them.

While Towns scored 28 of his 30 points in the first half, Rose did the opposite, scoring 29 of his 31 points in the second half of the game.

Messi stars off the bench in Barca’s 3-1 victory

Lionel Messi started in the bench for a much-needed rest but finished the game with a goal and an assist to lead Barcelona to a 3-1 win over Leganes in the Spanish La Liga.

Napoli defeat Lazio 2-1

First half goals from Jose Callejon and Arkadiusz Milik gave Napoli a 2-1 victory over Lazio in the Italian Serie A.

Dembele earns Lyon 2-1 win at St Etienne

Moussa Dembele scored in the fifth minute of injury time to hand Lyon a 2-1 derby victory over rivals St Etienne.

Nabil Fekir’s second-half penalty had cancelled out Romain Hamouma's opener for St Etienne to set the stage for Dembele’s late heroics.

Serena ousts No. 1 Halep to reach Australian Open quarters

Serena Williams faced her first real test in this edition of the Australian Open and emerged on the winning side as she got the better of world number one Simona Halep 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

The match swung back-and-forth and was filled with terrific game-play from both women, but it was Serena who progressed to the quarter-finals.

Joining her in the last eight stage will be Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova. In the men’s section, Milos Raonic and Lucas Pouille made it to the quarter-finals with wins on Monday.
