The story so far:Amanda plans to teach Wendy a lesson for having cast the Monopolizing Spell. While in the forest to collect objects, Wendy’s spells go wrong, and she is at the receiving end of the blunder. She is dumbfounded by the turn of events.

Wendy hid behind a tree to escape the rogue branch. She peeped out and there was no sign of the branch. She heaved a sigh of relief. Suddenly, she felt a punishing whack on her bottom. She rubbed her backside, certain that it would be sore for several days. The branch continued to whack her.

Wendy pointed her wand at the branch and whispered “Transformus Flowerus,” — the spell to transform it back into a flower.

The branch transformed into a grisly wolf. “Grrrrr...,” it growled, as it advanced towards her.

Turning around, Wendy ran into the forest with the wolf close behind. Saliva dribbled out of the wolf’s mouth in thick strings.

Wendy, exhausted and devoid of ideas, continued running until she collapsed. The wolf closed the gap with every stride.

A brainwave struck Wendy. She realised what was happening to her spells. Someone had cast the Jinx Mix Spell on her wand. It mixed up the spells horribly — the spells had the opposite effect of the spells cast. Wendy knew how to get around it. She also knew who had cast the spell on her wand.“Transformus Lionus,” pointing her wand at the advancing wolf, Wendy whispered the spell to transform it into a lion.

The wolf disappeared. A large rock appeared in its place.

Wendy moved towards the rock. She was alone. Reaching the rock, she patted it as though it was her pet dog. She sat on the rock to plan her next step. An evil plan emerged from the depths of her cunning mind. Her face split into a smile.

Tit for tat

Carrying the rock, she moved to the edge of the forest where Amanda awaited the arrival of her apprentices.

Amanda sat beneath a tree, her wand on the ground beside her. She studied the objects brought by her apprentices. A crow cawed from a tree. The strong wind ruffled Wendy’s hair. No one noticed her arrival. Moving to Amanda’s side, she deposited the rock on the ground and grabbed Amanda’s wand. Pointing it at her own wand, she transferred the Jinx Mix Spell to Amanda’s wand.

Her wand was now free of the Jinx Mix Spell. Replacing Amanda’s wand, she flopped to the ground beside the rock.

“You are back,” Amanda’s eyes twinkled. “Hope you had fun?”

“It was okay,” she replied. “I brought only this,” she pointed to the large rock.

“Apprentices, carry your objects to my house,” Amanda said. “Wendy, help Robert, he has brought practically the entire jungle with him.” She pointed at the assortment of objects and creatures: a stunned bird, a bird’s egg, the skin of a snake, and lots of fruit. “I’ll carry your rock for you,” she patted the smooth surface of the rock.

Carrying a bunch of fruits and the skin of a snake, Wendy followed Robert. She turned around to stare at Amanda. Pointing her wand at the rock, Amanda whispered a spell to reduce the size of the rock.

The rock transformed into a grisly wolf. The wolf growled at Amanda, who stared at it in alarm. Moving a few steps back, she pointed the wand at the wolf to transform it back into the rock. But, the wolf leapt towards her, baring its teeth in a ferocious snarl, saliva dribbling from its mouth. The wolf lunged towards Amanda. She raced into the jungle, followed by the growling wolf.

Wendy grinned. Amanda shouldn’t have messed with her. Well, now she had only herself to blame for her predicament.

The end.
