Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) completed 50 years of hot metal production in 2009-10, a year that it considers as a landmark one. Concerted actions resulted in the plant achieving best-ever production in almost all major areas of operations during this year.
A release said that production of salable steel at 1.88 million tonnes recorded a new high, a growth of about 6 per cent with a capacity utilisation of 119 per cent. Production of crude steel at 1.97 million tonnes was also the best-ever since inception, a growth of 4 per cent and marking a 109 per cent capacity utilisation. Hot metal production at 2.17 million tonnes also recorded growth of 3 per cent with a capacity utilisation of 104 per cent.
