Wanted: only qualified help

The ‘help-wanted’ sign has now officially made way for ‘qualified help only’. Indian employers and recruiters have a large number of vacancies for high-skilled positions, according to a recent survey.

Randstad India’s latest global work-monitor survey, released on Wednesday, indicates that 65 per cent of employers have trouble finding highly qualified people, with this trend set to continue for the next three years.

With over 5000 employees interviewed, this number is much higher than the global average of 48 per cent.

“There is no doubt that corporate India is facing challenges to find the right talent. As the economy improves, this situation will only be more pronounced. The training and development function of corporates must be strengthened,” said E. Balaji, MD & CEO, Randstad India.

Another idiosyncrasy highlighted by the survey, which could explain the qualified-talent crunch is India’s continued ‘king-of-the-hill’ position on the mobility index. This index measures the employees’ likelihood of changing employers within a six months time-frame.

With an index of 142, India tops the list and has done so in the previous nine quarterly surveys conducted since 2010.

“While this finding is not new, it reaffirms that the war for talent continues to be a major challenge for organisations in India,” the survey said.
