Tata Motors on Tuesday unveiled TAMO Racemo, a two-seater sports coupe at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland.
“Racemo is the first innovation from TAMO and our emotional, unexpected leap to the future. Symbolising the change that is taking place at Tata Motors, Racemo is the proving ground of the TAMO family of vehicles and will drive the future of India’s connected generation,” said Guenter Butschek, chief executive officer and managing director, Tata Motors in his addresss.
The car was unveiled in the presence of former Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata and newly-appointed Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran.
TAMO is a new sub-brand of Tata Motors. Racemo is the first in the series of innovations that addresses the challenges faced by the automotive industry, according to the company.
“Racemo will bring alive connected car features such as advanced navigation, predictive maintenance, remote monitoring and over-the-air updates using Microsoft cloud-based technologies including advanced analytics, Internet of things (IoT) and machine learning powered by Microsoft Azure,” according to a Tata Motors statement.
Racemo, designed at Tata Motors’ studio in Italy and developed in India, is a concept now and expected to hit the roads in 2018.
As part of its new Passenger Vehicle strategy, Tata Motors recently introduced TAMO, an incubating centre of innovation working towards new technologies, business models and partnerships to define future mobility solutions.
TAMO, a ring-fenced vertical, operates on a low volume, low investment model to provide fast-tracked technologically advanced products.
Meant for the risk-taking, adventure loving, digitally native, mobile first technophiles of India, Racemo is also India’s first connected car, Tata Motors said in the statement.
Tata Motors also showcased the special editions of its Tigor, a compact sedan and Nexon, a compact SUV at the premier motor show.
