Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) is planning to hit the one million-mark in production during the current calendar.

“Our target is to produce one million vehicles in India,” said Devashish Handa, vice-president, SMIPL. “We have pegged this year’s production target at 9.70 lakh vehicles. But, we will be hitting the one million-mark by tweaking and de-bottlenecking the capacity,” he added.

Mr. Handa said the firm would be producing 8.60 lakh scooters of which 1.10 lakh were for exports. Motorcycles would account for another one lakh units. The company had a production capacity of one million.

Koichiro Hirao, company head, SMIPL, said the company was focusing on producing scooters above the 125cc and motorcycles above the 150cc categories.

“We don’t want to get into the 110cc scooter segment, which is likely to shrink. We would like to be a premium player,” he said.
