Ahead of the much anticipated launch of 4G services by Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., telecom major Bharti Airtel has launched 4G trials for its existing customers in Mumbai.

As part of the trail run, Airtel customers in Mumbai would avail a complimentary upgrade to Airtel 4G at 3G prices provided they have 4G enabled devices.

Airtel plans to use the trial phase to gather customer feedback to further improve its infrastructure in the city.

Ashok Ganapathy, Hub CEO, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat, Bharti Airtel, said, “As an increasing number of Indians show a preference for consuming data and content over their mobile devices, we are bringing the power of 4G to our customers in Mumbai. While launching Platinum 3G we significantly augmented our network and now have made further investments in building a robust 4G network here.”

Airtel has asked its existing customers to walk into one of its galleries with a 4G ready mobile device and upgrade to a 4G SIM and experience the enhanced mobile internet speed.

Partners with Flipkart, Samsung

Airtel has partnered Flipkart to exclusively sell the service bundled with the devices of brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, Lenovo, Asus and Huawei.

The company has also partnered with Samsung India. Under the partnership with the South Korean handset maker, both the companies will promote each others' 4G offerings at their respective outlets.

Airtel had in February 2012 launched India’s first 4G service in Kolkata. Its 4G services are now available in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune, to name a few places.
