Punjab govt to review 18 IT SEZ projects

Published - October 26, 2009 04:46 pm IST - Chandigarh

After having launched a new IT policy this month offering incentives to attract investments in the sector, the Punjab government will now review the proposed 18 IT SEZ projects and IT parks in a meeting tomorrow to decide on “serious” IT players.

Besides, the government further intends to “detect” non-serious companies, which could be asked to explain “inordinate” delays in the implementation of their projects in the state.

“Almost all IT companies, which have proposed to set up their projects in the state have confirmed their participation in the meeting,” an official of the state-owned Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation Ltd (Infotech) said seeking anonymity.

Out of the 18 proposed IT projects, Punjab had received seven IT SEZ proposals with a projected investment of Rs 3,669.40 crore. Barring Quark City IT SEZ project, which has shown some commitment towards its project, the fate of other IT SEZ projects is still not clear.

“Several IT SEZ projects are still in the process of acquiring land,” said an official.
