Sensational developments have taken place in connection with the recent anarchical outrages. Following upon the information obtained in the course of their investigation the Bengal C.I.D. on Monday morning [May 27] raided a number of houses in Calcutta and also in various parts of Northern Bengal. Several persons were arrested in consequence. In one of these raids which took place in a village near Serajganj in Pabna district the police while searching a house were fired upon by two men who escaped from the house. The police returned fire and pursued the runaways. After a short pursuit one man was captured with a loaded revolver on his person. The other man was pursued and captured in a field some distance away. The second man who was captured was wounded by the police fire. A charge under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempted murder) has been instituted against these two men who are believed to be the absconding members of a revolutionary party for whom the authorities were searching for some time.
