India recalls envoy from Karachi

The Government of India has decided to recall its High Commissioner in Karachi, Mr. Kewal Singh, for “consultations”. Although the official statement says that Mr. Kewal Singh has been recalled for consultations, this step has been taken as a protest against the high-handed action of the Pakistan Government against Mr. Kewal Singh and the staff of the Indian High Commission during the period of the recent fighting between the two countries. The Government of India has firmly decided that Mr. Kewal Singh will not return to Karachi until the Pakistan Government has apologised for the inhuman and undignified treatment accorded to him. There has been a feeling in the Indian High Commission in Karachi that the Government of India has not taken adequate measures to safeguard the security of the Indian personnel there.
