India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said he had to choose between Ashish Nehra and Harbhajan Singh for the final over and opted for the former.
“I had to make the decision. If you see, Nehra has been our best bowler at the Death over the last couple of years. But there are times when your tactics do not work. That is cricket,” he said.
Dhoni admitted that his side had lost the plot in the batting Power Play overs. “We lost too many wickets and lost momentum. We could have got 330 or 340 but aimed between 360 and 370. Still, we should have batted out the 50 overs. We had to show more application.”
The Indian captain said, “We still have seven points from five matches and have almost qualified for the quarterfinals. There is a lot of cricket left.”
Dhoni acknowledged that his side's fielding needed to improve. “This was a big ground and they (the South Africans) targetted some of our fielders. And they fielded very well. It made a difference.”
