After winning their seventh consecutive match at the Chepauk, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni stated that this is a record that the team is “proud of.”
“Our record at home is something that we can be really proud of. It is a big achievement for us but it does not mean that we can relax a bit,” the skipper said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Dhoni feels that it was good that his team came up trumps in some of the tougher games.
“You don’t want to win all games easily. You want some tough games that test your middle-order, lower middle-order and your bowlers. I think we are now ready for the big games.
“With 150-odd runs, we were looking at not giving many runs in the first six overs. The game was even till the 10th over of the Kochi innings. But then the ball lost its sheen and it was difficult to play shots against the quality spinners that we have in our line-up.”
Man-of-the-match Wriddhiman Saha said, “I was initially looking to rotate the strike and once set go for my big shots.
I was told by the team management that if quick wickets fell I would be promoted up the order.”
Kochi skipper Parthiv Patel admitted that they were late in accelerating.
“I thought 153 was gettable. But then we were late in accelerating. Our bowlers did a good job in restricting Chennai to 152. Our plan was to keep wickets in hand due to the slow nature of the wicket,” Parthiv said.
As a team, the Team India glovesman’s assessment was that winning six out of the 14 matches wasn’t a bad effort at all.
“We were a new team. We won six matches which was good.
We gelled well as a team and hopefully we will comeback well next year,” he concluded.
