Top-seeded Victor Crivoi of Romania had an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over seventh seed N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth in the final of the TVS-ITF men’s Futures tournament at the Madurai Union Club here on Sunday. The Romanian had won in Chennai last week.
It was a clinical performance from the Romanian as he broke Prashanth in the second game. A superb lob followed by a brilliant backhand passing shot on the run gave Crivoi a 2-0 lead. He held on to his next two service games as Prashanth couldn’t raise his game.
The Indian was broken again in the sixth game as errors started to creep in on the backhand side. The Romanian had an easy seventh game, taking the first set 6-1 with an ace.
Crivoi hardly broke a sweat in the second set also. Leading 40-15, Prashanth was broken in the first game as the Romanian came up with a couple of eye-catching down-the-line shots.
The Romanian had no problems in holding on to his serve. Prashanth had a chance to break in the fourth game, but the Romanian raised his game to take the game. Down 1-4, Prashanth was again broken in the fifth and seventh games.
He double-faulted twice in the fifth game, while his forehand strokes let him down in the seventh game.
“I am very happy to have won two titles. I am 30 and with still a few years left in me, I want to improve my ranking and get to the top 100,” said Crivoi.
The winner got Rs. 75,000 (18 ATP points) and the runner-up Rs. 46,000 (10 points).
Dr. Rabindranath, veteran tennis player, gave away the trophy.
The result (final): Victor Crivoi (Rou) bt N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth (Ind) 6-1, 6-1.
