Yuki Bhambri may not have given a good advertisement about the quality of his game, even though he bounced back courageously for a crucial victory in the Asia-Oceania Davis Cup tie on Friday.
The young lad was understandably nervous as he was leading the country as No. 1 for the first time at home and the quick court too did not let him get back his rhythm once he lost it.
Coach Aditya Sachdeva, who has been moulding Yuki from childhood, looked at the positive side of the contest and pointed out that it was a ‘huge milestone’ for him to have won the first five-setter of his career.
“Now he knows that he can pull it off despite playing way below his best,’’ said Sachdeva.
The coach also highlighted the fact that the 20-year-old had been playing on slow courts in China last week and was taking time to get used to the faster court here.
“He was trying too hard on his serve and was falling in trying to generate extra pace,” said Sachdeva.
Sachdeva was categorical that he never felt that Yuki would lose the match and was confident that he would pull it off in five sets despite losing the second set at love.
