Maharashtra wins

Maharashtra, with 101 points, won the overall championship in the Unequipped event of the senior National powerlifting championship here on Wednesday. Karnataka (77) and Kerala (61) finished second and third respectively.

Maharashtra also took the women’s team title, with 53 points, ahead of Karnataka (48) and Kerala (34).

Odisha emerged the men’s champion, with 51 points, followed by Maharashtra (48) and Madhya Pradesh (36).

Ishwar, Sampa the best

Ishwar Machkhand of Odisha and Sampa Guha of Bengal were named the best lifters in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

The results:

Men: 93 kg: 1. Sanjaya Kumar Nayak (Odi) (220 squat, 155 bench-press, 260 dead-lift=635 total), 2. Arjun Gulati (Utt) (230, 150, 252.5=632.5), 3. Vinod Kumar (IPF) (237.5, 157.5, 235=630).

105 kg: 1. Ramdas Kharat (Mah) (245, 165, 250=660), 2. Sujay Janardhan (Kar) (240, 100, 250=590), 3. Sourabh Mehta (Raj) (220, 142.5, 220=582.5).

120 kg: 1. Santosh Kumar Barik (Ori) (250, 117.5, 240=607.5), 2. N. Subramanyan (Kar) (215, 147.5, 245=607.5), 3. Bheem Sonkar (MP) (225, 100, 245=570).

120 kg plus: 1. Mulla Abbas (Mah) (245, 140, 250=635), 2. Ajay Dhameja (Raj) (237.5, 125, 235=597.5), 3. Bheem Sonkar (MP) (225, 100, 245=570).

Women: 63 kg: 1. Geetha (Kar) (110, 42.5, 150=302.5), 2. Bela Ghosh (Jha) (105, 65, 110=280), 3. Indu Oja (Raj) (95, 55, 110=260).

72 kg: 1. Preeti Temghare (Mah) (135, 57.5, 137.5=330), 2. Sushma Patil (Mah) (105, 55, 127.5=287.5), 3. Bithika Mondal (Ben) (110, 45, 115=270).

84 kg: 1. Sampa Guha (Ben) (157.5, 92.5, 165=415), 2. Sangeetha Singh (Ori) (140, 70, 140=350), 3. Snehankita Varute (Mah) (135, 67.5, 135=337.5).

84 kg plus: 1. Prasidha Pandit Rao (Mah) (132.5, 67.5, 155=355), 2. H. Neha (Kar) (140, 65, 150=355), 3. Ranjita Bhattacharya (Ben) (125, 72.5, 145=342.5).
