Angela Voigt, the 1976 Olympic long-jump champion for then East Germany, died on Thursday of an undisclosed illness, her former club SC Magdeburg said on Monday. She was 61.
Voigt had her best season in 1976, apart from the Olympic gold raising the world record to 6.92 metres outdoors and 6.76m indoors.
She returned from a baby break with European championship silver in 1978 and retired in 1982.
