Delhi won the boys’ title of the 64th junior National basketball championship that ended at the Jawahalal Nehru Indoor Stadium here on Sunday night.
Delhi subdued Punjab 89-82 in a well-contested final.
Tamil Nadu took the third spot outplaying Kerala 96-57.
Earlier, Chhattisgarh girls retained the title defeating Kerala.
Both Delhi boys and Chhattisgarh girls were awarded Rs. 1 lakh each for the title triumph.The Harish Sharma memorial award for the most valuable player of the championship went to Delhi’s Gaurav Ohlan (boys) and Chhattisgarh’s Kavita Akula (girls).
Both received Rs. 15,000 each. President of the BFI, R.S. Gill, felicitated Loveneet Singh, Syed Anam (both Punjab) and Narender (Delhi) and gave away Rs. 50,000 to each player for helping India finish second in the inaugural three-day FIBA-Asia 3x3 held at Bangkok from May 22.
The result:Boys (final): Delhi 89 (Pradeep Kumar 26, Gaurav Ohlan 23, Pankaj Rathi 17, Narender Rathi 15) bt Punjab 82 (Satnam Singh 24, Loveneet Singh 14, Jaspreet Singh 11, Abhishek Rai 10). Third place: Tamil Nadu 96 (S.Karthickeyan 38, Nikal Pandian 13, M. Harish 13, P.Vijay 11, P.Raghunath 10) bt Kerala 57 (Akhil 20, Sreerag 10).
