Junior athletics: Three records set on the final day

The third and final day of the 12th National inter-District junior athletics meet at the BHEL Stadium in Haridwar saw three meet records being set in various categories on Sunday.

East Delhi’s Shahnawaz Khan broke the meet record in the boys’ under-14 high jump by clearing 1.85m, bettering the existing mark of 1.84m set by Anil Kumar Shahoo of Mumbai Suburb. Shubham Mishra of Allahabad came second with 1.75m.

In the girls’ under-16 100m hurdles, New Delhi’s Shivangi Rawat clocked 15.68 seconds, bettering the previous best of 15.78s set by Sapna Kumari of Jharkhand’s Ramghar district.

Abhey Gupta of Haryana’s Ambala district threw the discus to a distance of 48.68m in the under-16 boys’ category, ahead of Ravi Kumar of Churu district (47.45m) and Ujjawal of Jhajjar district (47.30m).

In the process, he bettered the previous meet record of 47.97m, set last year by Rajasthans Vanam Sharma.

The results: Boys: Under-14: 100m: 1. Gurinder Vir Singh (Jalandhar, 11.81s); 2. Vishal (Bulandshahar, 12.05); 3. Sandeep Khalkho (Pitthorgarh, 12.16).

High jump: 1. Shahnawaz Khan (East Delhi, 1.85m); 2. Shubham Mishra (Allahabad, 1.75); Varun Kakran (Rangareddy, 1.75).

Under-16: 100m: 1. Abhijit Sahu (Cuttack, 11.67s); 2. Prasanjeet Kujur (Cuttack, 11.75); 3. Paritosh Barman (Siliguri, 11.77). 110m hurdles: 1. R Rajesh (Tiruchirapalli, 14.48s); 2. Binkash Barwa (Sundergarh, 14.51); 3. Prasanjit (Cuttack, 15.02). Discus: 1. Abhey Gupta (Ambala, 48.68m); 2. Ravi Kumar (Churu, 47.45); 3. Ujjawal (Jhajjar, 47.30).

Girls: Under-14: 100m: 1. Antima Kumari (Saran, 13.24s); 2. U. Padmasari (AP, 13.49); 3. Donald Francis (New Delhi, 13.87).

Under-16: 100m: Tapati Sahoo (Cuttack, 13.34s); 2. Ritu Insan (Kaithal, 13.5); 3. Fathima (Malappuram, 13.54). 110m hurdles: 1. Shivangi Rawat (New Delhi, 15.68s); 2. Sapna Kumari (Ramghar, 16.64); 3. Jasmi Kisku (Cuttack, 16.84).
