Hockey probables list pruned down to 33

Hockey India’s (HI) selection committee has pruned down its list of probables for future tournaments from 48 to 33 players.

The list was shortened after the three-day selection trials, which concluded at the Netaji Subash National Institute of Sports, Patiala on October 27.

HI selectors Col. Balbir Singh, B.P. Govinda and Thoaiba Singh as well as government observer Harbinder Singh and chief coach Michael Nobbs tested the fitness and performance before announcing the list on Monday.

The final squad of 18 will be announced shortly for the Lanco International Super Series in Perth (Nov 22-25), FIH Champions Trophy in Melbourne (Dec 1-9) and the second Asian Champions Trophy in Doha (Dec 20-27).

Following is the list of 33 players:

Goalkeepers: P.R. Sreejesh, P.T. Rao, Srenivas Rao.

Fullbacks: V.R. Raghunath, Sandeep Singh, Rupinderpal Singh, Harbir Singh, Amit Rohidas, Sampath Kumar Maylaram.

Halfbacks: Sardar Singh, Kothajit Singh, Birendra Lakra, Manpreet Singh, M.B. Aiyappa, Pradeep Mor, Gurmail Singh, Vivek Dhar.

Forwards: S.V. Sunil, Gurvinder Singh Chandi, Chinglensana Singh, Shivendra Singh, Danish Mujtaba, S.K. Uthappa, Pradhanna Sommanna, Nithin Thimmaiah, Yuvraj Walmiki, Dharamvir Singh, Akashdeep Singh, M.G. Poonacha, Prabhdeep Singh, P.L. Thimmanna, Sukhdev Singh, Gurpreet Singh.
