Air India moves into semifinals

Air India registered its second straight win in the quarterfinal league of the Coal India 116th Beighton Cup hockey tournament here on Monday. Air India beat South Central Railway 4-3 in a Group B match to enter the semifinals.

In an inconsequential Group A match, RCF (Kapurthala) downed Canara Bank 6-4, the teams finishing third and fourth respectively in the group.

The results (quarterfinal league):

Group A: RCF (Kapurthala) 6 (Gurpreet Singh 20 & 38, Sanjay Bir 25 & 32, Gagandeep Singh 46, Karanpal Singh 56) bt Canara Bank 4 (Naveen Patel 16, John Varghese 17, K.P. Dinesh 23, Bipin Bopaiah 48).

Group B: Air India 4 (Sameer Dad 2, Somanna 5 & 37, Shivendra Singh 57) bt SCR 3 (Belsajar Horo 45 & 47, Lalit Upadhyay 65).
