Fed Cup team captain Enrico Piperno could not accompany the squad for the Asia-Oceania Group II tennis competition to be staged in Astana, Kazakhstan from February 4 to 8.

Piperno, along with reserve players Prerna Bhambri and Shweta Rana, did not get a visa. Attempts were being made at the behest of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to at least ensure a visa on arrival by Monday.

While Sania Mirza was scheduled to reach on Monday, the rest of the team comprising Ankita Raina, Prarthana Thombare and Rishika Sunkara, along with coach Shalini Thakur that left Delhi on Saturday afternoon, was stranded in Almaty.

The team missed the connecting flight to Astana owing to the delayed arrival of its flight in Almaty.
