Sri Lanka chased down the target of 113 with ease despite losing wickets early during the first ODI in Dharamsala on Sunday.
Chasing a meagre total of 113, Sri Lanka were 19 for 2 with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah taking a wicket apiece. Jasprit Bumrah took the wicket of Upul Tharanga off a no-ball with Dinesh Karthik taking the catch. Tharanga used this opportunity to full use and scored a brilliant 49. Hardik Pandya finally took the wicket of Tharanga caught by Shikhar Dhawan at slip.
Angelo Mathews and Dickwella joined the act after Tharanga's dismissal and chased down the target with 29.2 overs to spare.
Earlier, M.S. Dhoni played a beautiful knock of 65 to give India's total some respectability after they were reduced to 29 for 7. Being put into bat, India were dismissed for 112 during the first ODI in Dharamsala on Sunday.
Sri Lanka seamers led by Suranga Lakmal tested the Indian batsmen under seaming conditions. Suranga Lakmal and Angelo Mathews bowled in tandem to stutter the Indian batsmen.
Angelo Mathews drew first blood by dismissing Shikhar Dhawan for nought and Suranga Lakmal struck twice quickly by removing both Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik.
Then Nuwan Pradeep got into the act and dimissed Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer. Suranga Lakmal, who bowled his quote of overs on a trot, accounted for Manish Pandey and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Suranga Lakmal ended his excellent spell of 4 for 13.
M.S. Dhoni and Kuldeep Yadav stitched a 41-run partnership before Akila Dhananjaya accounted for Kuldeep Yadav who made 19.
Pathirana accounted for Jasprit Bumrah for 0, who defiantly defended for 15 balls and giving good company for M.S. Dhoni.
