Brad Haddin is described by many here as the “ultimate team-man.”
Despite having lost the captaincy race closely to Steven Smith for the ongoing series, the 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman was all praise for the move to make Smith the skipper.
He said here on Tuesday, “I think they (Cricket Australia) have made a very brave and a very good decision in giving Steven the captaincy.”
Haddin added, “I think it is the perfect time for him (Smith), he is on top of his game at the moment which is one thing he doesn’t have to worry about as captain.”
The wicket-keeper batsman said, “He (Smith) is a good leader, he is only young and he is going to get better and better in the role. He is a good thinker, wants to learn.”
Haddin said Smith would have a “core group of Australian cricketers to assist him.”
The feisty Haddin had led Australia brilliantly in the final session of the dramatic first Test where his attacking methods gave Australia a memorable win.
While his ‘keeping has been good – he had nine victims behind the stumps at the Gabba – Haddin’s batting form has slumped alarmingly.
Haddin was confident about regaining his batting form.
“My preparations have been spot on. It’s just about getting that luck at the start of the innings.
“I am not stressed or worried. I have been in these situations before. The game will turn and will go my way.”
