Rain claims first day’s play between Sri Lanka and President’s XI

Bad weather today hampered Sri Lanka’s preparation for the upcoming Test series against India as the first day’s play of their three-day match against Board President’s XI was called due to persistent rains.

Heavy rains left the ground in unplayable conditions and umpires decided to call off the first day’s proceedings.

This three-day match is the only opportunity for the Lankans to get match-practice before the start of the three Test Series, beginning November 16 at Ahmedabad.

The other two matches are scheduled to be played at Kanpur (November 24-28) and Mumbai (December 2-6).

Sri Lanka: Kumar Sangakkara (capt), Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Tharanga Paranavitana, Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, Thilina Kandamby, Prasanna Jayawardene (wk), Kaushal Silva, Chanaka Welegedara, Thilan Thushara, Nuwan Kulasekera, Dammika Prasad, Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis.

Board President’s XI: Rohit Sharma (capt), Robin Uthappa, Abhinav Mukund, Ajinkya Rahane, Manoj Tiwary, Abhishek Nayar, Wriddhiman Saha (Wicket Keeper), Piyush Chawla, Pragyan Ojha, Pradeep Sangwan, Ashok Dinda, Pankaj Singh and Ishank Jaggi.
