Pakistan’s legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir has welcomed the inclusion of Shoaib Akhtar in the national team for Asia Cup and England tour. The former Test cricketer said the selectors took the right decision by including the pacer in the preliminary squad.

“It’s a good decision, Shoaib Akhtar is a kind of bowler who can alone win matches for his team,” said the former spinner.

Qadir, also a former chief selector said Salman Butt should be named the deputy of captain Shahid Afridi for team’s upcoming assignments. “Salman Butt is in good form and is a permanent member of the team, he should be named vice captain,” he said.

On reviewing the ban on players, the former star said there should be no double standards and all the players should be forgiven if PCB wants to remove the ban against the players. “PCB should deal with all the players equally if it wants to lift the ban against the players, removing bans from one or two players would not be fair for other players,” he said.

Qadir also called for a back-up team of youngsters which he said would pressurise the senior players to perform. “A back-up team is a must as it would add pressure on senior players to perform,” he said.
