England’s Ashes whitewash signalled the end of an era for the national team but Kevin Pietersen intends to be around for the new regime.

The flamboyant batsman said on Twitter he is “determined to help regain the Ashes in 2015” for England, which slumped to one of the most humiliating Test series defeats in its history.

Pietersen’s future with England is under scrutiny, along with other senior players, after coach Andy Flower said it felt like the “end of an era” after the drubbing by Australia.

Pietersen, who was England’s leading run-scorer with an average of 29.40 over five tests, tweeted “very disappointed to lose 5-0, and not to score more runs personally. Tough tour against a top class team.”
