Even as a probe by a seven-member committee into the Eden Gardens floodlight fiasco is on, West Bengal Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen on Saturday, said, he did not find any evidence of sabotage behind the incident.
“I don’t find any evidence of sabotage behind the floodlight fiasco at Eden Gardens,” Sen said when asked to comment that both Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and CPI(M) State Secretary Biman Bose suspected sabotage behind the power black out.
He said that the inquiry into the incident would reveal what was behind the black-out for around 25 minutes.
Asked if it was justified on the part of the city police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty, to caution about not allowing any international day-night match at Eden Gardens, “Unless corrective measures are taken,” Mr. Sen said, “Police chief may definitely make such observation as police have to take steps during such matches.”
The Home Secretary shot back at the media “You may create controversy over CP’s remark, but the intention should be properly assessed.”
Mr. Sen said police took “tremendous responsibility” during the ODI match, but those expected of discharging their responsibility had “not done so”.
Embarrassed over the power failure in one of floodlit towers at Eden Gardens during the fourth ODI between India and Sri Lanka, CAB has constituted a seven-member panel to enquire into the incident.
