Jammu & Kashmir made history on Wednesday by qualifying for the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals. The side’s previous best performance in the competition was a pre-quarterfinal finish in the 2000-01 season.
The spirited Jammu & Kashmir qualified by the proverbial whisker from group ‘C’, just 0.001 ahead of Goa in the net run-rate. Both the sides finished with four wins and 28 points from eight games but Jammu & Kashmir’s run-rate of 1.006 edged out Goa (1.005).
Maharashtra topped the group with 35 points and Jammu & Kashmir finished second. Only two teams progress to the knock-out stage from Group ‘C.’
In its last league matches, Jammu & Kashmir took three points for the first innings lead against Tripura at Agartala. Goa defeated Andhra by eight wickets at Porvorim to gain six points.
Jammu and Kashmir’s campaign has been spearheaded by skipper Pervez Rasool.
He has scored 550 runs so far this season at 50.00 and picked 21 wickets with his off-spin at 34.57.
Rasool’s side now takes on Punjab at Vadodara in the quarterfinals from January 8th to 12th.
