Wasim Jaffer’s gesture of foregoing his professional fee for the 2017-18 season has been appreciated by the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) and others.
The fee runs into several lakhs of rupees.
After a 19-year stint with Mumbai, Jaffer signed a two-year contract with VCA for two seasons (2015-16, 16-17).
He played the 2015-16 season, but a knee injury ruled him out for the second season.
However, the VCA paid his fee as per the contract.
Before the start of the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season that ended with Vidarbha winning the title, Jaffer wrote to the VCA saying he has decided to forego the professional fee and will take only the BCCI match fee. Anand Jaiswal, the VCA president, confirmed this.
Jaffer played his part averaging 50 plus in the nine matches he played, but he is not in Vidarbha’s team for the Central Zone Twenty20 league to be played in Raipur this week.
