The BCCI has convened a working committee meeting in Mumbai on August 2 to discuss the West Indies Cricket Board’s proposal for a T20 series in the US soon after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series.
The WICB and BCCI executives have been in discussions about two T20 matches in Florida during the week following next month’s fourth Test.
Besides ICC’s clearance — since the US cricket body is suspended — the tour had faced logistical hurdles, including visas for the Indian players.
However, a BCCI insider revealed that it has got an informal assurance from the authorities concerned that the visas will be processed in time.
The BCCI has thus called the emergent working committee meeting to get the formal nod of the committee.
Since BCCI president Anurag Thakur’s idea a mini-IPL in USA in September did materialise, the Board is keen on a series against the World Twenty20 champions in a country which has a sizeable cricket following.
SC order to be discussedThe working committee meeting will also discuss the roadmap after the administrative reforms ordered by the Supreme Court.
The Lodha committee has invited Thakur and BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke for a meeting on August 9.
The working committee and the SGM on August 5 will chart out BCCI’s reservations about some of the measures as well as plans for amending its rulebook. — Special Correspondent
