• Stage 1: Nausea. Not dangerous, but can make the climber uncomfortable.
  • Stage 2: Headache. This is a reason to worry, though some will push through.
  • Stage 3: Delusions. At this stage, AMS could be fatal to the climber.
  • The only way to recover from AMS is to get to a lower altitude as quickly as possible.
  • Young adults aged 20-27 experience the highest risk of AMS; males are at greater risk than females.
