Philippines to welcome world's lightest mobile phone

The world’s lightest mobile phone, Modu, will soon be introduced in the Philippines. Modu was included in the Guinness World Records last year as the world’s lightest phone at only 40.1 grams or 1.41 ounces.

Globe Telecom will introduce the model designed by an Israeli company, but no pricing or date has been set yet for the introduction of the mobile, The China Daily reports.

Modu is in itself a standalone mobile phone with text messaging features, and it can store up to 2 gigabytes of data. The unit does not have 3G capabilities.

The phone can be slipped into a wide variety of jackets — stylishly designed phone enclosures and consumer electronic products. According to the manufacturer, throughout the design process of Modu, the emphasis has been on keeping the phone small, light and compact in order that its innovative approach could be realized. The result is a phone that is not only miniature, but also superbly designed and minimalist, whilst offering all the functions and capabilities of a normal-sized handset.
